Understand what constitues domestic abuse including stalking
Identify the legislation and guidance which underpins preventing and tackling domestic abuse
Understand the DASH risk assessment tool and the purpose of a MARAC
Understand the impact on victims, survivors and their children, including prevalence of abuse in LGBTQ+ communities
Recognise potential impact on brain development of a child or young person, understand the benefits of the ICON project
Understand why some people stay in abusive relationships and identify the meaning of coercive and controlling behaviour with associated dangers
Identify the meaning of Honour based Violence, Forced Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation in the context of domestic abuse
Recognise the role of Independent Domestic Violence Advisors and identify local and national support
Explain the purpose of Domestic Homicide Reviews
Course Description
This 1 day Domestic Abuse and Violence course is aimed at professionals in any industry who have contact with children, young adults, and/or their families. The course is an introductory level and is suitable for workers of all levels, including part-time staff and volunteers.
It provides an overview of what domestic abuse is, how to identify signs of domestic abuse and the strong links and impact between domestic abuse and child abuse. This course includes stalking, Honour Based Abuse (Violence), Forced Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation.
